MANTIS BOXING (KUNG FU)—TANG LANG QUAN
Praying Mantis Boxing is a traditional style of Chinese martial arts that was developed in Shandong Province in China at the beginning of the Qing Dynasty (1644–1911).
Praying Mantis Boxing is especially famous for its speed and relentless attacks. Another prominent feature of the style is its complex footwork. For over 300 years, the style has proved to be a well-rounded Chinese martial arts system of self-defense. It incorporates a balanced blend of hand techniques, kicking techniques, throws and joint manipulations in its system.
Like most martial arts systems, Praying Mantis Boxing attempts to train not only the body, but the mind of the student. Strength of mind can be as powerful a weapon in self-defense as a fist. The goal is to develop the fighter’s internal energy and balance this with the body’s external strength. San shou is composed mainly of kickboxing and shuai jiao, a Chinese form of wrestling. San shou tournaments are one of the two sport wushu disciplines recognized by the International Wushu Federation.

The emphasis of san shou is on realistic fighting, and not the ability to perform elaborate forms. As an unarmed self-defense system, san shou includes throws, locks, chokes, kicks, punches. As a sport, san shou is practiced in tournaments.
