ON AUGUST 5-6 TWO DAY PRIVATE LESSON SEMINAR WAS HELD WITH GRANDMASTER LIU BAOMIN.

It was a truly unique opportunity

to learn one of the oldest forms of Praying Mantis boxing from one of the oldest representatives of the Taiji Tanglang tradition.

Mantis Kungfu Academy wants to thank Grandmaster Liu Baomin for these meaningful two and a half weeks spent here and for his contribution to further development of Mantis Boxing in Hamden, CT.

Click here to watch a video clip with Grandmaster Liu Baomin

72 year-old Grandmaster Liu Baomin is a seventh generation disciple of the Taiji Tanglang Quan tradition and a kungfu brother of Grandmaster Wang Yuanqian (1934-2002).

Liu Baomin is the oldest surviving disciple of Grandmaster Wang Yushan (1892-1976).

Liu Baomin started his Chinese boxing training in 1947 under the famous Qingdao teacher of Tanglang Quan and Taizu Quan, Grandmaster  Zhang Jingxiang (Facai). Zhang was Wang Songting's kungfu brother and a disciple of Ji Zhongde.

He also trained with Grandmaster Wang Yupeng of Qixing Tanglang fame.

In 1950 Liu Baomin began his training with Wang Yushan and indeed learned the complete system of Taiji Tanglang.

From 1957 until 1961 Liu Baomin helped Wang Yushan teach Taiji Tanglang Quan.

Since 1993 he has served as chairman of the Qingdao City Praying Mantis
Research Association.

This is Grandmaster Liu Baomin's second visit to the US during which he agreed to teach a Tanglang Quan seminar on the first section of Eight Elbows form called Bazhou.

Bazhou is one of the oldest, greater Meihua Tanglang tradition forms.

It was a unique opportunity to see one of the remaining representatives of the oldest generation of Taiji Tanglang Grandmasters. We all gained in-depth insight into the teachings of the old school of Taiji Tanglang.
